Competing

Competing
Trampoline competitions are a fun opportunity for the trampolinists to prove their skills and compete against others of the same age or skill level.
Competitions are available at many different levels depending on skill level and/or age of the individual (see Qualifying)

  • Club Competitions (typically Age only)
  • Auckland Regional (Age)
  • North Island (Age)
  • Nationals (Age – starting 10-under)
  • International (Varies)

Beyond the club competitions there are also a similar series of regional and national “Schools” competitions, including Primary-Intermediate, and Secondary. Categories for these competitions are slightly different with there being Elite, A, B, C and D grades with A, B, C and D equating roughly to Grades 2,4,5,6.
Typically in competition the trampolinist will compete with a first “compulsory” routine/pass with a controlled difficulty level, followed by a second “voluntary” routine/pass with more freedom over the difficulty. In both cases there may be a minimum difficulty level required to comply with the grade levels.
NOTE: Detailed breakdown of grade and qualifying requirements can be found in the Trampoline NZ Technical Handbook

Age Competitions
Age based competitions are based upon the age of the individual at the end of the competition year, hence someone who turns 11 on the 30th December will compete in the 11/12 year old age group.
Age groupings are typically in 2 year blocks
8-under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-over

To qualify for the different Age competition levels trampolinists must achieve a pre-defined score from a competition judged by a recognised and qualified judging panel. These include the Auckland and Island competitions.
Athletes can qualify separately in each of the disciplines of Trampoline, Double-mini, Syncro and Tumbling.
NOTE: Qualification levels are subject to change (see GymSportNZ website) and may also be influenced by coach discretion.
Venues
Most of the Auckland based competitions are held in one of two locations:
